The breed's unusual colouring sets it apart from other British sheep:the head and legs are a light grey-brown to brown with no woolthe muzzle tends to be lighter, almost off-white in colour, usually lightening with agerams are generally horned, but not always!
The breed combines the advantages of a native hill breed – with real strengths of its own:hardy, thrifty and an extremely effective forager;a comparatively heavy breed with a good length of body and width in the hindquarters, standing on well set legs with good bonea placid temperament
